Flemish farmers harvested some 2 million tonnes of fresh potatoes in 2022. With a total Belgian production of 3.6 million tonnes in 2022, Belgium is among the top five largest producers of potatoes in the EU.
The Netherlands is by far the most important buyer of fresh Belgian potatoes, with a share of 76% in 2022. France follows with 13% and Germany with 4%.
Belgian seed potatoes are above all exported to our neighbours, France and the Netherlands. Together, they represent a 66% share in 2022. Noticeable names on the list of markets include the North African countries like Egypt and Lebanon.
